Small Group Ministry
Chalice Circles
Do you ever wish for more connection to folks here at church? Would you like to meet with people willing to share their feelings and ideas at a deeper level?
Then joining a Chalice Circle is for you. Chalice Circles are part of a Small Group Ministry called “Soul Matters,” which is a UU-wide program with the goal of deeper connections among participants.
A Chalice Circle is a group of from five to ten people who typically meet once a month to discuss the theme of the month. For 2020 - 2021 the themes are:
September | Renewal | February | Beloved Community
October | Deep Listening | March | Commitment
November | Healing | April | Becoming
December | Stillness | May | Story
January | Imagination | June | Play |
During the pandemic, Chalice Circles will meet via Zoom. The main purpose of the group is for members to get to know one another on a deeper level by exploring a series of themes and being honest and open with one another. Chalice Circles do not advise people on what they should be doing. They are not therapy sessions. Members just listen thoughtfully without giving out unsolicited advice.
Chalice Circles are also committed to providing a service to the church and the wider community. An example of one such project was collecting items for “hygiene kits” that were later distributed to a homeless drop-in center.
This year the Chalice Circles began on September 7 and are facilitated by Aviva Heston and Theresa Fitzgerald
Aviva’s Chalice Circle: first Monday of the month from 4:30 to 6:00 PM.
Theresa's Chalice Circle: second Wednesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
