Small Group Ministry

Soul MattersDo you ever wish for more connection to folks here at church? Would you like to meet with people willing to share their feelings and ideas at a deeper level?

Then, joining a Chalice Circle is for you.

Chalice Circles are part of a Small Group Ministry called “Soul Matters,” which is a UU-wide program with the goal of deeper connections among participants.

A Chalice Circle is a group of from five to ten people who typically meet once a month to discuss the theme of the month. For 2019-2020, the themes of the month are:

September Expectation February Resilience
October Belonging March Wisdom
November Attention April Liberation
December Awe May Thresholds
January Integrity June Play

Chalice Circles can meet either at the church or at a member’s house. This year both of the planned Chalice Circles will meet at UUCSC. The main purpose of the group is for members to get to know one another on a deeper level by exploring a series of themes and being honest and open with one another. Chalice Circles do not advise people on what they should be doing. They are not therapy sessions. Members just listen thoughtfully without giving out unsolicited advice.

Chalice Circles are also committed to providing a service to the church and the wider community. An example of one such project was collecting items for “hygiene kits” that were later distributed to a homeless drop-in center.

This year there will be two Chalice Circles, facilitated by Nancy Holland and Terry Hassman.

Nancy’s Chalice Circle: Second Monday of the month from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
Terry’s Chalice Circle: Third Wednesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

If you are interested in joining one of these circles, or in facilitating a third Chalice Circle, please contact Terry Hassman at
