Teri Wittenberger

Teri was born and raised in Houston and became a midwesterner when she followed husband, Steve, to WI for grad school, then the Chicago area, where they lived for 30 years before relocating to Sherman Oaks four years ago. Teri graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in public relations, and in a mid-life career change, attended the Lutheran School of Theology for a master’s degree.

The Reverend Dr. Jay Atkinson was settled as our minister in September 1999 and served for twelve years until his retirement in June 2011. He holds an A.M. in Divinity from the University of Chicago and a Doctorate in Ministry from Meadville Lombard Theological School. Before coming to UUCSC, he served UU churches in Sioux City, Iowa, and Davis, California.

Stan Pitluck

Born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles, where he completed his education. He is proud to be a Bruin, graduating from UCLA with a BS degree in Construction Management. Stan was introduced to the church over 40 years ago by his wife Donna Mae, and has been a member for over 25 years.

John studied music at the University of Utah, where he was fortunate to be able to sing in a world-class choir under the direction of Barlow Bradford. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education before studying privately with Dr. Bradford and later earned his Master’s degree in Choral Conducting.

From 1996 to 1998, Rev. Rick Hoyt-McDaniels was our student intern. In 1998, he received a Masters of Divinity from the Claremont School of Theology and was ordained and fellowshipped. For the next 24 years he served several congregations in the Los Angeles area

Christina Mathers

Christina hails from Massachusetts and belonged for forty years to First Parish of Brookline UU Church. There she served on the Parish Board, chaired the Religious Education and Welcoming Congregation Committees, taught RE, co-chaired the Fundraising Committee and participated in the search for a settled minister. Outside of church she volunteered at Rosie’s Place, a shelter for houseless women, Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic, and was on the Board of Trustees of Shady Hill School, Cambridge, MA.

Greg grew up in Tarzana with atheistic Jewish and atheistic Methodist parents, and never went to a church nor temple until his teen years, when he visited occasional services with friends.  He attended an Episcopal church in his late 20’s but did not find Unitarian Universalism until age 57.
