Rev. Dr. Jay Atkinson
Minister Emeritus

The Reverend Dr. Jay Atkinson was settled as our minister in September 1999 and served for twelve years until his retirement in June 2011. He holds an A.M. in Divinity from the University of Chicago and a Doctorate in Ministry from Meadville Lombard Theological School. Before coming to UUCSC, he served UU churches in Sioux City, Iowa, and Davis, California. He also did research in nuclear physics for eleven years. He lives with his wife, Ariel Summerlin, near Berkeley, where he studies UU history and theology as Research Scholar at Starr King School for the Ministry. He still preaches occasionally and leads tours to historic Polish Brethren sites in southern Poland.

John studied music at the University of Utah, where he was fortunate to be able to sing in a world-class choir under the direction of Barlow Bradford. He received his Bachelor's degree in Music Education before studying privately with Dr. Bradford and later earned his Master's degree in Choral Conducting. After graduation, John served as Music Director at the South Valley Universalist Unitarian Society, where he developed an appreciation and respect for UU values. John is thrilled to have an opportunity to serve as Music Director here at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Studio City.

Alex hails from Cedar Rapids, IA, where he grew up attending People's UU Church. He studied Theatre Arts at the University of Iowa and has appeared in dozen's of plays and touring shows.  An LA resident since 2010, he is passionate about the outdoors, art, music, storytelling, politics, game nights, and his kitties.  He is grateful to be a part of the UU Studio City community and to have the opportunity to be of service to its members.

Stan Pitluck

Born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles, where he completed his education. He is proud to be a Bruin, graduating from UCLA with a BS degree in Construction Management. Stan was introduced to the church over 40 years ago by his wife Donna Mae, and has been a member for over 25 years. His 30-year career in the savings and loan industry has made him a valued contributor on numerous committees, including as chairman of several. Previously, Stan was treasurer for six years on the Board of Trustees, and in June of 2014 was honored to receive the UUCSC Service Award. Currently he also serves as an elected member of the Board.
