The battles we are fighting today are not new. From the artificial construct of race to the gender binary, America’s legacy of social caste has continued to haunt us since the founding of our nation. Today, the transgender community faces a fierce and deadly assault. Just as we have led as a sanctuary of faith for abolition, suffrage, and gay rights, Unitarian Universalists congregations and communities are called to lead the way for transgender people seeking refuge in these uncertain times.
