Religious Exploration

Teachers in our Religious Exploration program
What makes a religion a religion..? And how do we explore it?
While it is common to define Religion as Belief or Worship, we also explore the essence of Religion within Ethics, Story, Self Reflection, Tradition, and Sacred Time and Place.
At every age level we share these program goals:
- Explore Ethics and Philosophy.
- Compare and Survey World Religions, great and small.
- Create Building Blocks for a Personal Theology.
- Develop a Unitarian Universalist Identity.
From the Director of Youth Religious Exploration:
Now is a great time to be a part of the Youth Religious Exploration program at our church. It's been a joy to welcome new and visiting families, and I look forward to getting to know you, old friends and new, better.
As long as our SoCal winter keeps giving us sunny skies on Sundays after church, I'm really enjoying the time we gather on the playground. We'll begin to prepare for the spring traditions soon, but for right now, I'm enjoying the time for conversation and pushing the swings.
Join us at the next Religious Exploration Committee meeting after church on Feb 12th, 11:30 till 1PM. Now's a fine time to see if this is the committee for you. Or if you just want to help out where you can.
Our traditions are important to our kids. The rhythm of activities, of holidays and holy days, gives these events weight and meaning. We have an Easter canned food drive every year. Our NowRuz (Persian New Year) display, our Passover seder, our Earth Day trash to treasure art show are now part of our cycle of celebrations. We need many helpers to make these events successful.
Now is a great time to let us know what you would like to do to help. I'll explain all these events at the meeting.
It's also the perfect time to let us know how we are doing. What can we do better? Now's a good time to look at our goals and mission and ask if we are moving in the right direction.
Now's a great time to start thinking about our new social action project...and you can get a preview of it here:
Now's a great time.
