Rev. Hannah Petrie
The Rev. Hannah Petrie currently serves UUCSC full-time as Consulting Minister. An enthusiastic life-long UU, she grew up in the North Shore UU Church of Deerfield, IL, affirmed there in 1987 (the UU version of confirmation), and ordained in 2005. Rev. Hannah has served congregations in California over ten years. A trained Community Organizer, she is passionate about changing laws and policies that change lives in the areas of immigrant protections, police reform, and poverty alleviation. Her theology is pagan-based, with a particular interest in Native American thought-ways. Her heroes are Crazy Horse, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt, and Jesus of Nazareth. Rev. Hannah is married to Canadian 3rd generation UU, Kit Petrie, who develops software for NASA. Their 4th generation UU children are 6 and 8 years old. The family loves to swim, camp, and take hikes in the San Gabriel Mountains, just minutes from their home in Altadena.
Dr. Jason Taksony Hewitt
Director of Religious Exploration
Jason is a Unitarian Universalist, a member of the UU Buddhist Fellowship, and a dedicated life-long learner. He is continuing his studies of religious history and interfaith spiritual formation at the Claremont School of Theology. A strong advocate of interfaith dialogue and community building, Jason has worked to promote these in several communities. Originally from North Carolina, Jason grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he first encountered the UU community. He has lived in Boulder, Colorado and in various parts of California while learning meditation and studying ecological spirituality in the Buddhist, Muslim, and Christian traditions. Jason currently lives in North Hollywood with his husband Sean and their three dogs and two cats. Together, Sean and Jason enjoy exploring life as fanboys, sharing their obsession for all things related to science fiction and fantasy.
Dr. Nancy Holland
Director of Music
Nancy Holland delights in leading the choir at UUCSC. She holds a doctorate in Choral Music from USC’s Thornton School of Music, sings with the Donald Brinegar Singers, and is the Assistant Conductor of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Chorus.
Before coming to USC, Nancy conducted in churches and schools and community choirs in Pasadena, CA, Palos Verdes, CA, and Belmont, MA. She led choirs to South Africa, Latvia, Estonia, Cuba, and Transylvania, and taught English and Music at Chadwick School in Palos Verdes, CA, Middlesex School in Lowell, MA, the Renaissance Academy in Eagle Rock, CA, and Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Kamuela, HI.
Nancy also holds degrees from Swarthmore College, Stanford University, Middlebury College, New England Conservatory, and the Royal Academy of Music. She enjoys hiking, skiing, yoga, and Pilates. Her husband Jim teaches English at the Westridge School for Girls in Pasadena.
Stan was born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles, where he completed his education. He is proud to be a Bruin, graduating from UCLA with a BS degree in Construction Management. Stan was introduced to the church over 40 years ago by his wife Donna Mae, and has been a member for over 25 years. His 30 year career in the Savings and Loan Industry has made him a valued contributor on numerous committees, including as Chairman of several. Previously, Stan was treasurer for six years on the Board of Trustees, and in June of 2014 was honored to receive the UUCSC Service Award. Currently he serves as an elected member of the Endowment Committee and has been on the Leadership team as Facility Manager since 2011.
Claudia has over 22 years of office management experience in organizations ranging from Northridge Hospital’s Spiritual Care Department, St. Elisabeth Church & The Rogationist Father of The Heart of Jesus, in Van Nuys, to LA Valley College’s Distance Education Student Help Desk. She holds certificates in Graphic and Web design, General Office Assistance and is a Website Software Specialist She is currently working on a Computer Applications Specialist degree at Los Angeles Valley College.
